I imagine the CC version will gain new features that aren’t available in the perpetual license, even if they continue selling a perpetual license to keep their earlier promise. With the split branding of Lightroom CC and Lightroom 6, I think we’re now heading toward a time when Lightroom will start to diverge much more significantly.

Update April 2015 – Time flies in the world of computing. Lightroom has a completely different target market to the main Creative Cloud software, so I’m not anticipating changes there in the foreseeable future. Nothing Adobe’s said suggests that’s true – exactly the opposite, in fact. There are some rumblings around the web suggesting that Lightroom will soon go subscription only too. There’s no official word on Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements yet, but the expectation is the same will apply.

That’s now been rebranded as Creative Cloud, and will be available by subscription only. The price of the photography plans, which are less than the $20 one-app subscription, didn’t change at that time. Last year, Adobe raised Creative Cloud pricing on some packages, some by $1 a month, others by $3 to $10 a month after adding a handful of new programs to the all apps plan. While the test appears to only eliminate one plan and not change the pricing, photographers looking at both Photoshop and Lightroom would only have the $20 option with an added 1 TB if the test becomes a reality. However, Adobe did not comment on if a plan change is coming in the future. The company says the test has no impact on the availability of the different plans.
